As part of the activity programme accompanying La Vuelta Holanda, De Oranjeboom has developed a photo hunt and a cycling tour. These can be walked and cycled independently throughout the year. La Vuelta Holanda Historische Fietstocht Breda
Fiets een 55 kilometer tocht langs een deel van de de Spinola-route met een mooie mix van geschiedenis en sportieve inspanningen georganiseerd door De Oranjeboom met dank aan stichting Breda Nassaustad, Stadsfotograaf Breda en La Vuelta Holanda.
Het startpunt en eindpunt is bij het Nassaumonument in het Valkenbergpark in Breda. De route gaat grotendeels over verhard terrein. Een klein deel is echter niet verhard.
De Tachtigjarige Oorlog (1568-1648) is van groot belang geweest voor de Republiek der Nederlanden en de stad Breda. Breda was regelmatig de inzet van de Staatse en de Spaanse legers. De stad en de Baronie van Breda behoorden tot de bezittingen van de Nassau’s en derhalve tot de erfenis van Willem van Oranje. De fietstocht is zo opgebouwd dat langs een deel van de geschiedenis van de Tachtigjarige Oorlog zichtbaar wordt gegaan. Langs de route staan er lansen op de plaatsen waar eens de Spaanse linies waren.
De lansen markeren de oorspronkelijke onderdelen, waaronder legerplaatsen en schansen. Er zijn verschillende kleuren te zien. Een deel van de lansen heeft blauwe kleur. Die staan symbool voor de contravallatie. Ze staan gericht op de Grote Kerk van Breda. De lansen van de circumvallatie zijn cognac-kleurig en staan van de toren af gericht. Op de plaats waar de legerkampen waren, staan rode lansen recht overeind. De lans behorende bij de sleuteloverdracht is goudkleurig. Een tweede goudkleurige lans staat bij het Van Coothplein. Die start bij de start van de route, zoals die in 2002 door stichting Breda 750 is uitgezet.
Breda heeft al eeuwenlang een speciale band met het Huis Oranje-Nassau. In 1403 trouwde de graaf Engelbrecht van Nassau met de Bredase Johanna van Polanen. Zo werd de basis gelegd voor het Nederlandse koningshuis. Met dit huwelijk kregen de Nassaus de Baronie van Breda in handen. Breda werd ook de thuisstad van Engelbrecht II van Nassau (1451-1504) en Willem van Oranje (1533-1584).

La Vuelta Holanda Historic Cycling Route Breda
Cycle a 55 kilometre tour along part of the Spinola route with a nice mix of history and sportive efforts organised by De Oranjeboom with thanks to the Breda Nassaustad foundation, Stadsfotograaf Breda and La Vuelta Holanda.
The starting and finishing point is at the Nassaumonument in the Valkenberg park in Breda. The route largely uses paved surfaces. However, a small part is not paved.
The Eighty Years’ War (1568-1648) has been of great importance to the Republic of the Netherlands and the city of Breda. The city of Breda was regularly contested by the State and Spanish armies. The city and the Barony of Breda belonged to the Nassau’s and therefore to the heritage of William of Orange. The cycling tour is structured in such a way that part of the history of the Eighty Years’ War is made visible. Along the route, lances are placed where the Spanish lines once were.
The lances mark the original parts, including army positions and entrenchments. There are different colours. Some of the lances are blue. They symbolise the contravallation. They are directed towards the Great Church of Breda. The lances of the circumvallation are cognac-coloured and face away from the tower. At the place where the army camps were, red lances stand upright. The lance belonging to the transfer of keys is gold-coloured. A second gold-coloured lance stands at Van Coothplein. This one is at the start of the route, as set out in 2002 by the Breda 750 foundation.
For centuries Breda has had a special bond with the House of Orange-Nassau. In 1403 Count Engelbrecht van Nassau married the Breda woman Johanna van Polanen. This laid the foundation for the Dutch royal family. With this marriage, the Nassaus obtained the Barony of Breda. Breda also became the home city of Engelbrecht II of Nassau (1451-1504) and William of Orange (1533-1584).
